Since Shane died in 2009 we have tried, and will continue to try, to warn the public that antidepressants can cause suicide and/or homicide. We have Professor Healy’s expert report which states that, in his opinion, Cipramil caused the events of 2009 (It’s attached to the side-bar on the right if anyone needs any information). During the last 2 years and 5 months, we have had to contend with denials and rebuttals from Lundbeck (surprise, surprise) and Ireland’s Psychiatric body, the College of Psychiatry of Ireland; Statements such as this one from Prof. T. Prof Timothy Dinan UCC said that he could say with“100 per cent certainty and without any fear of contradiction” that modern anti-depressants such as the drug Citalopram (sold as Cipramil) which Mr Clancy took do not cause people to commit murder. He added that there was no evidence either that the drugs cause patients to take their own lives.
Along with Prof. Patricia Casey who also rebutted our claims and denied the side-effects, Prof. Dinan has a long history of collaboration with lundbeck. He has lectured at meetings and served on advisory boards organised by companies promoting antipsychotic medications, including Eli Lilly, Janssen-Cilag, Pfizer and AstraZeneca, and contributed to the Lundbeck Mental health barometer report. He has lectured at meetings sponsored by or acted as an advisor to all companies who market a branded SSRI. He is a clinical trials subcommitee member with the Irish Medicines Board and is also a listed expert with the European Medicines Agency (EMA). His declared Conflict of interests do not mention much of the above though! Link.
Both of these Psychiatrists have attended Inquests where antidepressants have been an issue in the persons death. Is this a conflict of interest?

It both angers and upsets me that this info is all evident to the actuality but despite such proof nothing is done.
The fact Healy stood against Seroxat and won (getting it banned), confuses me that, as a drug no diferent to all other snri/ssri, that one can be banned yet the others not.
All cause brain disruption, behaviour alteration, impairment and instability. What scientific sense is there in the one is diferent? (profit!).
There are thousands upon thousands of the case reports to prove that playing with serotonin is a dangerous and experimental brutality, no one is proven cured by serotonin drug therapy, if anything the proof is, induced worsening (disguised as a new made up disorder ‘Bipolar/Unipolar’) or fatality, whats not being heard is, i believe, deliberatedly ignored.
This is too big an epidemic over two decades that is media silenced and keeping these poisons dished out like candy.

This is not a suicide case, but in regards to my 75 year old mother. She was prescribed ESCitalopram on december 9th, 2011. She had no intent to begin this antidepressant, but was convinced by the doctor that she saw, that she should ‘try it’. She took one dose the next day, developed chest and shoulder pain, and was dead as a result of ventricualr arrythmia 2 hours later. The ER report clearly states ‘Torsades de Pointes’, yet the report states she died of miocardial infarction (clogged arteries). Yet, her blood pressure was normal, never smoked, drank, and to top it all off, her blood Troponin levels were normal (high levels indicative of miocardial infarction). Not one person in the medical community will even admit that cipralex (escitalopram) caused this – she was 75 years old, after all. Law offices do not want to take on the case unless they can be guaranteed they can make money. My mother, nor I, were made aware of the risks of this medication, and knowing my mother, she would never have touched it, had she been made aware. The internet is littered with warnings wrt citalopram and its effect on the QT interval of the heart. The medication she received was manufactured by Lundbeck Canada. This is an international epidemic. I found out 2 weeks ago, a cousin of mine in Germany is receiving 150mg a day of citalopram (> 3x the allowable limit)! Another acquaintance of mine in Canada showed me that her 70 year old brother was receiving 70mg a day citalopram (3x the allowable limit)- this in march 2012. These are all major overdoses, and it appears it is business as usual with the medical community, despite the news releases regarding the reduced allowable doses recommended by Lundbeck.
Is anyone aware of a lawfirm that is willing to go against Lundbeck? I don’t care if they are not located in Canada. I’d be interested in any class action as well. I’d like to post this case elsewhere, if there are links to other sites that pertain to the dangers of SSRIs, in particular citalopram / escitalopram.
I’m on a warpath and it will not end until justice and accountability are achieved.

I’m so sorry to hear that about your mother. I’m not sure about law firms over there; there are certainly class actions going on with Citalopram and Escitalopram but I think they are concerning suicides on these drugs.
The heart problems with Citalopram and by extension Escitalopram have only recently been admitted by Lundbeck and Forest Labs but I’m sure plenty of cases will follow. Did you try jim gottstein Alaska?
Your cousin and the other guy really need to go back to the doctor and give him/her the information about these drugs and what a high dose can lead to.

Thanks for your kind words & support Leonie. I am meeting with a Law Firm tomorrow to discuss this. Failing that, I may contact Gottstein. I am in the process of filing a request for investigation with the college of physicians & surgeons of Ontario, Canada – they are a “self-regulating” body here.
I recently read an article that a friend sent me regarding the Vioxx scandal of a few years ago. Again, it turned out that mostly the elderly, and female patients that were taking Vioxx, were mysteriously dying of ‘sudden death’ heart failure. And mysteriously, the number of deaths nationwide in the US, dropped when Vioxx was taken off the market. As well, when Vioxx was introduced in the market, the number of annual deaths related to heart failure went up. Merck, the manufacturer of Vioxx, purposely downplayed the danger of the drug with respect to this. I plan to call statistics Canada here, to see if there is a similar correlation for Citalopram / ESCitalopram. I would not be surprised. How many people have to die before a drug is taken off market? How has the medical community in both of our countries erred on the side of caution? It appears that they are playing “russian roulette” with all of our lives.
